Eliminate Leg Pain

Do you suffer from leg pain? If so, you’re not alone.  Last year more than 1,000,000 people suffered from leg pain and 60% of all Americans suffer from some type of vein disorder.

There are many causes of leg pain including: inflammatory, orthopedic, neurological, and vascular. Common causes are muscle fatigue, dehydration, injury, and even medications. More serious causes include: blood clots, nerve damage, arterial blockages, inflammation, infections, diabetes, or varicose veins. To determine the exact source of your discomfort, discuss your symptoms with a qualified physician. In some cases, further testing (ie: Doppler/ultrasound, X-ray, MRI, bone scan, blood test, or Arteriogram to check blood flow) may be necessary. In other cases, the cause is obvious.

For common muscle aches, try these steps:

  • Rest
  • Elevate the leg
  • Gently massage the muscle
  • Apply ice for up to 15 minutes, four times a day
  • Take over-the-counter pain medications like ibuprofen

For leg pain caused by varicose veins, compression stockings, leg elevation, and support hose can help. For leg pain caused by nerve or circulation problems, avoid alcohol and tobacco, manage diabetes, and eliminate poor-fitting shoes.

If pain continues or additional symptoms are present—fever, elevated pain while walking or exercising, changes in leg texture, color, or temperature (black and blue, cold and pale, swollen and red)—call your doctor immediately.  For professional treatment and diagnosis, visit Florida Vein Care and Cosmetic Center—specializing in treating varicose veins, spider veins, and blood circulation.
